Family Friendly Winerys

Had a beautiful Mother's Day with my family.  All I wanted was to visit beautiful vineyards, sip delicious wines and enjoy my family.  My husband, I and the kids set out for Napa Valley.  First we went to The Ranch Market in Yountville to pick up snacks, sandwiches and treats. Our first stop was Alpha Omega Winery in Rutherford.  As we arrived, we were greeted at the door and welcomed to sit anywhere to enjoy our picnic. Donny bought a 2010 Sauvignion Blanc which paired beautifully with our "Yountville" sandwich which consists of Turkey, Avocado and brie on Bouchan Bakery bread, Kettle Chips and a few Hershey kisses.  Our girls enjoyed frolicking around the grass and looking around the vineyards.  A friendly neighbor, a black lab, came around to greet each guest.  It is so refreshing to enjoy such beauty and taste while spending time with the kids too!

Our next stop was Sterling Vineyards in Calistoga. What a treat to take a gondola ride up to the winery where we were immediately greeted with our first of 5 wines to taste.  This self guided tour allowed us to taste and look around at our own pace. As we turned various corners, we'd be greeted with another wine to taste and move on.  My favorite part is the terrace which has breathtaking views of the valley.  We could see for miles!  Our last tasting was inside a room which boast a beautiful patio outside and fireplace with a few tasting bars inside.  It was quite cozy.  Our girls were also given juice boxes to enjoy. The tour ended with a trip to the wine gift shop where all kinds of gifts from chocolate covered blueberries, wine stoppers and of course their wine selection was all nicely displayed.  I am sorry to say, I didn't write down the wines that we tasted, but I enjoyed them all and what a super fun experience for our family.

Our last stop was not planned.  It was 5:00 now and most wineries were closing, but we couldn't pass up just taking a peek at Castello di Amorosa in Calistoga.  The concierge greeted us and although wine tasting was closed for the day, she allowed us to snoop around a bit.  My little princesses came alive at this real live castle.  There were paths that took us up, down, all around. There were all sorts of towers, even a drawbridge!  We gazed into the medieval dining room and I can just say, simply stunning, beautiful stone walls and floors and colorful too. Although we didn't taste here, they do offer juice to the kids as well.  This will be a future family stop and I'll blog about it next time.
